Our Philosophy

Every Child is a Genius
Every child is a genius, and most parents and teachers do not know how to unleash the genius in their child. In order to ensure that we are unleashing the genius and hidden potential in each and every child, our program incorporates the following elements:

  • Individual Learning Strategy
  • Learning as a Student-Centered, Experiential, and Active Process
  • Positive Reinforcement
  • Multi-sensory Learning
  • Whole Brain Learning
  • Peer Learning
  • Teachers who have an Inner Calling to Teaching

Individual Learning Strategy
Each child has a unique Learning Strategy. At Math Genie, we believe that in order to succeed in school, children need to be taught in their own individualized learning strategy.

Some children learn visually (by seeing). Others learn kinesthetically (by moving/touching). Others learn using their auditory (hearing) ability. There are even children who learn by using an Internal Digital Learning Strategy (in which they use self-talk and internal dialogue to learn). All of these children can succeed in a classroom, but all of them must also learn using their unique Learning Strategy.

Also note that Learning Strategies exist on a continuum, meaning that each child can be anywhere on that continuum. A child can be primarily kinesthetic and also moderately visual, whereas another child can be primarily auditory and moderately kinesthetic. Each child is unique in their Learning Strategy.

It Really Works
One child (Michael K.) who entered our program at the age of 10 was inherently a kinesthetic learner. He learned by moving his body. He was very motivated when he was building with Legos and engaging with the arts, but he slacked and had no confidence when it came to math.

Because of this lack of confidence and inability to complete tasks, he was classified as Learning Disabled and received a failing grade in math on his report card. When he came to Math Genie, we used our Learning Strategy Assessment to determine that he was a primarily kinesthetic learner. He learned by using his hands and moving his body. At Math Genie, he was able to use his kinesthetic Learning Strategy to learn to use the abacus, and he was highly motivated to move through the grades and learn new concepts. Not only was his primary strength used, but we at Math Genie also trained his visual and auditory learning ability.

In 3 months, the results were astonishing. Michael went from having an F in math to a B, and then later moved to an A+ by the end of the year. In Science, he went from a D to a A. We do not teach Science here at Math Genie, and we do not claim to. We strongly believe that he excelled in science because of the honing of his Learning Strategy and the incorporation of other strategies. He was able to generalize the skills and strategies learned here to science class, and this helped him succeed.
